How many retailers do you scan?

We currently scan 6 retailers. If you have suggestions for new retailers we could scan, please let us know.

Is this web scraping?

Yes, our bot makes a very gentle and unintrusive HTTP request to a retailers' website and looks for recent changes. This minimal HTTP request only inspects the HTML and does not request images, css files, javascript files, or anything else - it is therefore lighter than if a real person was viewing their web page.

The frequency of the scraping is determined by how often the retailer updates their inventory. If the retailer only gets new stock once per week, our bot checks their site far less often. The minimum frequency of our bot is 1 request to each retailer every 10 minutes, but most get scanned far less frequently.

In no way should this service be considered harmful to retailers. It drives free traffic to their websites, and helps them make sales, at no cost to them. It does not put any stress on their website and is the opposite of a DDOS attack.
